Network Rail is investing £1.5m to renew nearly 1.2km of railway track near Snelland in Lincolnshire, in a project intended to improve journey reliability and reduce future maintenance requirements.
Replacement buses during weekend works
Trains will be replaced by buses between Cleethorpes and Lincoln or Barton-on-Humber on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October while the work takes place. Passengers have been advised to check their journey with East Midlands Railway or National Rail before travelling.
Snelland level crossing on Station Road will also be closed to vehicles and pedestrians from 22.00 on Friday 16 October until 05.30 on Monday 19 October. A signed diversion will operate via the B1202, B1399 and A158.
The project will replace life-expired track components, which Network Rail said would reduce the need for maintenance and the likelihood of a temporary speed restriction being needed in future.
Engineers will use nine engineering trains, road-rail vehicles and other specialist equipment to deliver the renewal.
Eric Larocque, Network Rail’s East Midlands operations director, said: “We’re investing £1.5 million to renew almost 1.2km of track near Snelland, replacing life-expired components and helping to deliver more reliable journeys for passengers.
“We’re sorry for the disruption and thank passengers and local residents for their patience while we complete these important improvements.”
