EMR to restore more Intercity services from 19 October

East Midlands Railway plans to operate 96% of its full Intercity timetable, reinstating services for Sheffield and Nottingham passengers.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) plans to increase its Intercity service from 92% to 96% of the full planned timetable from Monday 19 October.

The operator, which is run by Transport UK, said the change would restore a number of services between Sheffield, Nottingham and London St Pancras. It follows the introduction of a reduced timetable in July and an increase from 87% to 92% on 1 September.

EMR said improved operational stability across its Intercity fleet had supported the latest increase. It has been working with Hitachi Rail, the Department for Transport, the Department for Transport Operator and other industry partners on fleet reliability and operational resilience.

Services returning to the timetable

For Sheffield, the revised timetable will restore additional weekday services, including the 09:00 departure to London. More Saturday and Sunday services will also return, alongside earlier and later journey options in both directions.

For Nottingham, the changes include the return of the 13:50 and 18:10 services to London, as well as London departures at 11:35, 16:05 and 20:35. Additional Saturday services will also be reinstated in both directions.

Neil Grabham, interim managing director at East Midlands Railway, said: “We know how important reliable Intercity services are to the communities, businesses and customers we serve. The restoration of these additional services, including more weekday and weekend options for Sheffield and Nottingham, will provide greater choice and flexibility for those travelling to and from London.

“While this is a positive step forward, we recognise that there is still more work to do. We remain focused on working closely with Hitachi Rail, the Department for Transport and our other industry partners to address the remaining fleet challenges and restore the full timetable as soon as we can.”

Grabham also thanked EMR’s customers and frontline teams for their patience and work during the recovery.
