WJ Sunstone rebrands highways technology portfolio

The refreshed range brings traffic, surveillance, detection, communications and off-grid power systems under a simpler naming structure.

WJ Sunstone has rebranded its highways technology portfolio as part of an effort to give operators and contractors a clearer way to identify and combine its systems.

The refreshed range covers intelligent traffic, surveillance, detection, communications and off-grid power solutions for temporary and longer-term highway applications. The company said the technology itself and its performance remain unchanged.

New portfolio structure

The intelligent traffic range includes TASCAR (Temporary Automatic Speed Cameras), AVERA (Active Vehicle Event Recognition Alerts), Stopped Vehicle Detection and Rapid ANPR Mobile Cameras.

Solar-powered surveillance systems have been grouped under the Detect name. The portfolio includes Detect, formerly ARC; Detect-R, formerly Raft; and Detect-S, formerly SICS. The systems can be configured with CCTV, radar and automatic number plate recognition equipment, according to the requirements of individual applications.

Connect is the company’s communications base station for locations without existing infrastructure or where additional capacity is needed. The off-grid power range is centred on Volt, formerly ARC Gen, and Volt-P, formerly Power Station, which are intended to supply equipment where a mains connection is unavailable or impractical.

WJ Sunstone said the new structure allows customers to select individual technologies or combine them as project requirements develop.

New depot near Stoke

WJ Sunstone has also brought WJ’s intelligent transport systems team fully under the WJ Sunstone banner.

The business has opened a second dedicated depot at Silverdale, near Stoke, five minutes from WJ’s Northern headquarters. The site houses the division’s control room and is intended to free capacity at the neighbouring Stoke depot for the wider business. WJ Sunstone’s other dedicated depot is in Whitstable.

“We have a broad range of trusted, high-quality technologies that solve very different challenges, and we wanted to make it much simpler for customers to understand what each solution does, where it can be used and how the different technologies can work together,” said Tom Howarth, head of WJ Sunstone.

“The rebrand gives the portfolio a stronger and more consistent identity, while the new names are designed to make the role and benefits of each solution clearer. Importantly, while the names have changed, the quality, reliability and expertise behind the solutions remain the same.”

WJ Sunstone is due to demonstrate the portfolio at Highways UK on stand F23.
