TomTom and automated driving technology company DeepRoute.ai have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their joint technical work on AI-based automated driving.
The companies have integrated TomTom’s location data into DeepRoute.ai’s automated driving stack and plan to demonstrate the combined system on roads in Paris during the Paris Motor Show.
Location data supports cross-market deployment
DeepRoute.ai’s system combines sensor information with TomTom’s location intelligence to help automated vehicles interpret road layouts, local traffic rules and surrounding conditions. The companies said this information is intended to support the planning and manoeuvres required for advanced L2+ and L2++ driving functions.
They said location data will become increasingly important as automated driving systems are introduced in different markets, where road designs, driving behaviour, regulations and validation requirements can vary. TomTom’s data is intended to help vehicle manufacturers and technology partners adapt systems to regional conditions.
“Automated driving systems are becoming increasingly advanced and safer by building on a reliable understanding of the physical world. As these AI-driven technologies evolve, they need a scalable, dependable understanding of real-world environments that can adapt to local road conditions,” said Willem Strijbosch, head of Orbis product management at TomTom.
“DeepRoute and TomTom’s cooperation is speeding up the safe roll-out of automated driving across different markets,” he added.
Xuan Liu, partner at DeepRoute.ai, said the partnership would support the company’s international expansion.
“By combining our advanced AI driving stack with TomTom’s rich location intelligence, we can better help automakers navigate complex and unfamiliar regulatory and physical environments abroad, bringing safe and scalable automated driving to drivers worldwide faster,” Liu said.
