Luton Airport seeks contractor for nine-year Dart inspection deal

London Luton Airport has launched a tender for principal and ongoing inspections of its Dart transport system and wider civil assets under an estimated £800,000 contract.

London Luton Airport is seeking a contractor to inspect the civil engineering assets associated with its Luton Dart system under a nine-year contract worth an estimated £800,000 excluding VAT.

The agreement is scheduled to run from 1 April 2027 to 31 March 2036. It will begin with principal inspections of the Dart’s civil and structural assets, followed by regular general inspections.

Additional surveys and repairs

The scope includes reviews of structural engineering reports and inspections linked to a landslip, drains and manholes. The appointed supplier will also review the airport’s wider civil structures and assets.

Additional surveys and minor repairs identified through annual or principal inspections may be instructed when required. The contract also allows for modifications and variations during its term.

The tender notice, published on 16 October, warns that the final cost could increase if inspections identify unknown risks requiring additional or more frequent work. Changes to legislation, health and safety requirements or applicable standards could also lead to extra inspections and costs.

Procurement timetable

Between three and five suppliers are expected to be invited to tender following the participation stage. The deadline for submitting enquiries is 4 November, while requests to participate must be received by noon on 10 November.

The estimated award decision date is 1 March 2027. Luton Borough Council is managing the procurement on behalf of London Luton Airport Limited.
