Clancy secures £26.84m Havant Thicket pipeline contract

Work will start in December on a Farlington pumping station and 8.5km pipeline serving Portsmouth Water’s reservoir project.

Clancy has been appointed by Portsmouth Water to deliver a £26.84m pumping station and pipeline package for the Havant Thicket Reservoir project in Hampshire.

Work is due to start in December, with completion scheduled for early 2030. The contract covers a new pumping station at Farlington and an 8.5km pipeline connecting the treatment works with the reservoirs.

The pipeline will be capable of moving up to 32.4 million litres of water a day, equivalent to the capacity of about 400,000 bathtubs.

Water resilience project

Clancy chief executive Matt Cannon said the contractor would use directly employed teams and specialist local supply chain partners to deliver the pumping station, mechanical and electrical systems and pipeline.

“Our focus throughout will be on safe, precise and efficient delivery that also protects the environment and minimises disruption to the community,” he said.

Portsmouth Water chief executive Bob Taylor said the appointment was an important milestone for the reservoir scheme. He said the company would hold meetings and drop-in sessions to keep local people informed during the works.

Taylor said the infrastructure would support the project’s purpose of helping to protect the River Test and River Itchen, two chalk streams in Hampshire.
