United Infrastructure buys Hodgson Sayers in latest acquisition

The undisclosed deal adds the County Durham contractor’s roofing, building-envelope and civils operations to United Infrastructure’s growing portfolio.

United Infrastructure has acquired County Durham-based contractor Hodgson Sayers, continuing a recent run of purchases across the power and infrastructure sectors.

The price of the transaction has not been disclosed. Hodgson Sayers, founded in 1979, operates from offices in Stanley and Nottingham and provides roofing, building-envelope, civils, metalwork and fabrication, and security products.

Utilities and infrastructure work

United Infrastructure said Hodgson Sayers has worked with Northern Powergrid for 45 years and has recently secured contracts with National Grid, local authorities and housing associations.

Neil Armstrong, chairman and chief executive of United Infrastructure, described the acquisition as “a strong strategic fit”. He said it would add “valuable roofing and building-fabric expertise” to the group’s power and social infrastructure capabilities.

Hodgson Sayers’ accounts for the year ended 31 December 2025 recorded a pre-tax profit of £1.1m on turnover of £15.4m. The business reported an average monthly workforce of 96 during the year.

In June, managing director John Sayers said the company’s civils and construction division had grown to match roofing in turnover. “We have always had a very strong and capable construction and civils capability, which is focussed on the utilities sector,” he said.

Latest in acquisition programme

The deal follows United Infrastructure’s purchase of engineering firm Simkiss Group in February 2026 and the acquisition of Wood’s UK transmission and distribution business in December 2025.

United Infrastructure Group provides design, connections, repair, long-term maintenance and construction services. In its latest results, covering the year to 31 March 2026, the group reported revenue of £845.8m and a statutory pre-tax loss of £93.5m.
