A5121 Derby Road resurfacing completed in Burton

Staffordshire County Council has finished a £2.3m scheme on Derby Road, completing a wider three-year improvement programme.

Resurfacing of the A5121 Derby Road between Burton’s Derby Turn island and the Pirelli roundabout has been completed by Staffordshire County Council.

The four-month, £2.3m scheme involved removing the road’s top surface, strengthening sections of the carriageway base and laying new asphalt. Crews also cleared the area’s drains and applied fresh road markings.

Work was carried out overnight and in sections to maintain access for residents and businesses during construction.

Final section of wider route upgrade

The scheme completes a wider £5.5m, three-year project to resurface the entry route into Burton from James Brindley Way, along the A5121 Derby Road, to Derby Turn.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for strategic highways, said the completed section provided a “much-improved route into Burton”.

“I’d like to thank residents, businesses and everyone who uses this route for their patience while we’ve carried out the work,” Mason said. “We know roadworks can be disruptive, so it’s great to see the project finished and the benefits of a smoother road now being enjoyed.”
