AECOM has appointed Andrea Green as director for rail and transit across the UK and Europe, with responsibility for developing the consultancy’s rail business in the region.
Green joins from Alstom, where she was business development director and led the development and delivery of the company’s UK growth and resilience strategy. A civil engineer by background, she brings 30 years’ experience spanning engineering, project delivery, business development and senior leadership.
Focus on major rail programmes
In her new role, Green will work to strengthen client relationships and coordinate AECOM’s multidisciplinary expertise across major programmes. These include Network Rail’s Southern Renewals Enterprise and Leamside Line in the UK, as well as the North Bothnia Line in Sweden.
She will join AECOM’s Europe and India Transportation leadership team. The appointment follows Darren Cook’s move into a senior leadership role within the division after joining the company as director for highways and streets in September.
Steve Higham, AECOM’s managing director for transport in Europe and India, said the company had a “huge opportunity” in rail as programmes including Northern Powerhouse Rail progress alongside wider industry investment and change.
“We have a strong rail business underpinned by a breadth of capabilities and global expertise that puts us in a great position to support clients as those plans take shape,” he said.
Higham added that Green’s record in building businesses, developing client relationships and leading teams would help AECOM build on its existing strengths.
Green said: “This is a pivotal time to be joining AECOM. There’s significant investment going into the railway and a real opportunity to think differently about how projects are planned and delivered.”
She added that rail had an important role in connecting communities, supporting economic growth and enabling a more sustainable transport system.
Green will continue as vice chair of the Railway Industry Association’s Exports Leadership Group, which works with industry and government to support UK rail suppliers seeking international opportunities. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability.
