Breheny raises profit to £4.1m as turnover falls 8%

The Suffolk civil engineering group reported stronger margins and cash generation in the year to March 2026 despite an £11m reduction in sales.

Breheny lifted pre-tax profit by 7% to £4.1m in the year to March 2026, despite turnover falling 8% to £135m.

Directors said the result exceeded expectations, attributing the improvement to careful pricing and risk management.

Margins and cash strengthen

Operating profit rose to £3.4m, up from £3.1m, taking the operating margin to 2.5% from 2.1%.

Cash at bank increased to £24m from £19m, even as the group more than doubled investment in tangible fixed assets to £5.2m. This included £3.8m spent on plant and machinery.

Breheny Civil Engineering remains the group’s flagship business. Its groundworks arm, Terrasite, and utilities business, Networx, also continued to grow.

Focus on diversification

Directors said the group was exploring ways to diversify its revenue streams, while forecasts of a stronger infrastructure recovery provided grounds for optimism.
