Brighton & Hove secures £1.4m for road and pavement repairs

Department for Transport funding will support resurfacing, pothole repairs and improvements to pavements across the city during 2026/27.

Brighton & Hove has secured just over £1.4 million from the Department for Transport to improve roads and pavements across the city.

The funding will be used for resurfacing, pothole repairs and other defect treatments, as well as work to improve pavements. It was already included in the council’s maintenance plan for 2026/27.

Funding linked to highways transparency report

The award recognises work carried out by Brighton & Hove City Council, including the publication of its Local Highways Maintenance Transparency Report.

The report sets out the condition of the city’s roads, the council’s improvement strategy and the maintenance work planned for 2026/27.

Councillor Trevor Muten, cabinet member for transport and city infrastructure, said the funding was “testament to the hard work being done by the team”.

“Residents are seeing a visible improvement in the condition of our roads, with treatment, resurfacing and repair programmes taking place across the city,” he said.

Muten added that the council had invested in technology and gathered more detailed information about the road network, giving it “a more honest picture of what needs fixing and where investment will have the greatest impact”.

“We’re using this funding to make journeys smoother, safer and more accessible for everyone,” he said.
