Costain appoints Rohan O’Grady to lead HS2 London tunnels JV

O’Grady will become managing director of the Skanska Costain Strabag joint venture in October, succeeding Jonathan Morris.

Costain has appointed Rohan O’Grady as managing director of the Skanska Costain Strabag joint venture (SCS JV), which is delivering HS2’s London tunnels.

O’Grady will take over from Jonathan Morris in October, leading the team responsible for the London tunnels section of the high-speed rail project.

Experience in major infrastructure programmes

He joins from CPB Contractors, the construction and infrastructure arm of Australia-based CIMIC Group. O’Grady spent the past four years as alliance director for the NEWest Alliance, which delivered upgrades to Perth’s Metronet passenger railway.

The programme included the 17.5km Thornlie-Cockburn Link and the 14.5km Yanchep Rail Extension. Earlier in his career, O’Grady was chief operating officer at Mineral Resources and BGC Contracting, and spent 13 years at Leighton Contractors.

His roles at Leighton included project director on Chevron’s Gorgon liquefied natural gas project in Australia.

Costain transportation managing director Jonathan Willcock said O’Grady’s experience in delivering large infrastructure projects would support the SCS team during the next stage of HS2.

O’Grady said: “I’m proud to be taking on the leadership of the SCS JV at such an important stage in the delivery of HS2.”

He added that his priorities would include maintaining construction momentum and safety across the programme.
