FlixTrain is to install more than 40,000 Vela Pax seats supplied by Polish manufacturer Recaro Rail across its existing fleet and future trains.
Deliveries began in 2026, with the installation programme scheduled to continue until the end of 2028. Seats for new-build trains are expected to enter service in 2028.
Seat design tailored for FlixTrain
Recaro Rail said it had developed an ergonomic backrest specifically for FlixTrain while retaining the manufacturer’s established design language. The resulting curved back shell is intended to reduce weight and create additional passenger space.
A fixed back shell is designed to preserve that space when passengers use the seat’s five-stage recline system. The seats will also include leather headrests with reading lights and large tray tables incorporating three size options for passengers using their own devices.
Seats being installed through the current retrofit programme will have light grey trim and finishes. New-build stock will use a colour scheme of light green and anthracite.
“Partnering with FlixTrain is a major milestone for the entire Recaro Rail team as we continue to expand our footprint,” said Recaro Rail chief executive René Dankwerth. “This collaboration sets us on a clear path to meet our growth targets and bring the next generation of comfort to the railway industry.”
Flix Mobility chief executive André Schwämmlein said: “We haven’t just secured a product that meets our standards, we’re also partnering with a great team that shares our vision for train travel in the future.”
