Legislation to establish Great British Railways has begun its passage through the House of Lords, as the Department for Transport publishes a series of documents linked to its rail reform programme.
The DfT has also disclosed plans to appoint a research supplier to test the methodology for the first National Rail Travel Survey in more than 20 years.
Consultation on access policy
Public consultation has opened on the proposed GBR Access and Use Policy, one of the more contentious elements of the government’s plans for restructuring the railways.
The policy forms part of the wider framework being developed for Great British Railways as the legislation progresses through Parliament. The source material does not provide further details of the consultation’s proposals or timetable.
The developments come as the DfT issues further policy-related material and prepares research and evaluation work intended to support its rail reform agenda.
