Ipswich rail enthusiast visits all 272 Tube stations in 19 hours

Daniel Keeble completed his London Underground challenge in 19 hours and 17 minutes, raising more than £1,600 for Cancer Research UK.

An Ipswich train enthusiast has visited all 272 London Underground stations in 19 hours and 17 minutes, completing the challenge more than four hours inside his 24-hour target.

Daniel Keeble, 43, travelled from Chesham to Heathrow Terminal 5 and raised more than £1,600 for Cancer Research UK. The total could reach £2,500 once Gift Aid is included.

A demanding journey across the network

Keeble began his expedition at Chesham station and finished at Heathrow Terminal 5 at 00:30 BST on 10 October. The Underground network covers 11 lines and about 250 miles (400km) of track.

A bus connection that took 45 minutes longer than expected caused particular concern during the journey, forcing Keeble to consider whether to change his plans.

“The challenge was stressful, long and exhausting, but the most important thing for me was visiting all those stations and ticking them all off,” he said.

He added that the delay made the final stages “really quite tense and stressful”, but he decided to stick with the original plan.

Record remains out of reach

Keeble said his time was not a Guinness World Record, with the benchmark set at 17 hours and 46 minutes in 2024.

“My final time isn’t a record, but it is still a very respectable time, and we completed the challenge,” he said.

He is already considering how the route could be refined to improve his time or make the challenge different next year.

Keeble said his interest in the Underground began with The London Game board game, which he played as a child, while his wider passion for railways grew through trainspotting with his grandparents.

He was inspired to raise money for Cancer Research UK after seeing relatives die from cancer and the effect on his family.

“Cancer ravaged my father’s side of the family, causing pain, distress, and suffering, so the money raised will go towards research to try to beat this horrible disease,” he said.
