Mid Wales allocated almost £13.1m for 2027/28 transport projects

Ceredigion and Powys will use the Regional Transport Funding to support road safety, highways, public transport and active travel schemes.

Mid Wales is set to receive almost £13.1m in Regional Transport Funding for 2027/28, supporting projects within the Mid Wales Regional Transport Plan across Ceredigion and Powys.

The allocation is broadly in line with the funding secured for 2026/27. Ceredigion County Council said that earlier award represented an increase in regional investment compared with previous years.

Funding priorities

The funding will support road safety schemes intended to reduce the risk of serious collisions, alongside highway infrastructure improvements aimed at strengthening network resilience, reliability and accessibility.

It will also be used for public transport initiatives to improve access to employment, education and key services, as well as active travel schemes encouraging more people to walk, wheel and cycle for everyday journeys.

The regional programme is being delivered jointly across Ceredigion and Powys.

Councillor Shelley Childs, Ceredigion Cabinet Member for Highways and Environmental Services, said: “This continued higher level of support from Welsh Government shows that the Mid Wales region of Powys and Ceredigion is now receiving a fairer allocation of national transport funding. This enables us to set out a clear vision to progress and deliver our exciting array of projects and I commend the officers, design teams and contractors who continue to show that Mid Wales really can deliver on our regional transport plan projects and aspirations”.

Councillor Jackie Charlton, Cabinet Member for Greener Powys, said the funding would provide “practical improvements” for residents and help strengthen rural connections.

“Our focus will now be to deliver and make sure this investment makes a real difference to communities across Mid Wales,” she added.
