Nexus advertises five engineering roles for Tyne and Wear Metro

The vacancies span fleet, fire safety, geotechnical, architectural and off-track engineering, with applications closing on 16 November.

Nexus has opened recruitment for five engineering roles supporting the Tyne and Wear Metro, its infrastructure and other operational assets.

The operator said the appointments represented a significant recruitment programme for its engineering department. Applications must be submitted by 9am on Monday 16 November.

Roles cover fleet and infrastructure

The vacancies are Fire Engineer; Geotechnical and Off-Track Engineer; Fleet Performance and Reliability Engineer; Principal Architect; and Principal Engineer – Fleet.

Nexus said its engineering responsibilities extend beyond the Metro system to include civils and structures, buildings, overhead line, fleet, track, signalling, bus infrastructure and the Shields Ferry.

Ben Brooks, Head of Engineering at Nexus, said: “We are delighted to be investing in our engineering team through the creation of these new roles. This strengthens our existing resource base in several key areas. We’re expecting a high level of interest.”

He added that the recruitment came as Nexus invested in its infrastructure and prepared to expand the Metro network. The successful candidates, he said, would help solve problems, improve performance and keep the network operating safely and reliably.
