Raspberry Software to launch unified rail revenue protection system

The new platform will bring penalty and prosecution processes into one application when the company hosts its annual seminar in Birmingham on 15 October.

Raspberry Software is set to unveil a unified revenue protection system for train operating companies at its third annual Revenue Protection Seminar in Birmingham on 15 October.

The event is expected to attract around 80 senior representatives from across the rail industry. For the first time, it will also include senior figures from the tram sector, with delegates invited to share experience and examine how technology and collaboration can improve revenue protection.

Responding to changing fraud risks

Raspberry Software said revenue protection teams are dealing with increasingly complex fraud methods, including those linked to the growing use of tap-and-go and other contactless payment systems. It added that many teams still rely on manual processes to investigate and manage suspected fraud.

The Rail Delivery Group has previously estimated that fraud and ticketless travel cost the industry between £350m and £400m each year.

Raspberry Software said its new system will combine existing penalty and prosecution processes in a single application. According to the company, this will enable train operating companies to make amendments more quickly and cost-effectively as regulations and industry requirements change.

The platform follows the launch of the company’s Fraud Module in August. That module brings fraud-related data and processes together to help teams identify, investigate and manage more complex cases.

Peter Jarvis, chief executive of Raspberry Software, said: “Revenue protection is evolving rapidly, whether that’s because of new payment technologies, evolving fraud methods, changes in regulation or the increasing complexity of the cases teams are dealing with.

“That makes it more important than ever for the industry to share experience and look at what is working in practice.

“Our seminar has grown considerably since we launched it, which reflects the appetite across the industry for open discussion and practical knowledge sharing. This year, we’re particularly pleased to be bringing together representatives from both rail and tram, alongside unveiling our latest technology.”

Industry workshops

Jake Micsak of Waynova Group will discuss the company’s global rail technology offering and its potential benefits for the UK market. Two interactive workshops will focus on practical revenue protection challenges, allowing delegates to compare approaches across organisations.

Jarvis said the seminar was intended to provide a forum for open discussion rather than simply showcase Raspberry Software’s products.

“It’s about creating a forum where people working in revenue protection can have honest conversations about the challenges they face, learn from one another and consider what the future needs to look like,” he said. “That dialogue is essential if we are going to develop more effective and sustainable approaches to revenue protection across the transport network.”

The seminar will be held at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham on 15 October. Further information is available from Raspberry Software at jules.hollows@raspberrysoftware.com.
