Telent has secured a new contract with Herefordshire Council to maintain the authority’s traffic signal network, extending a relationship that has lasted for more than 25 years.
The agreement covers 97 traffic signal sites across the county. More than 80% of the network is fitted with Telent signal controllers, while around 85% of sites are connected to the company’s Optima Hub remote monitoring platform.
Remote monitoring across a rural network
Telent said the network has recorded an average of two signal faults a week over the past two years. Optima Hub gives engineers real-time visibility of signal assets, allowing faults to be identified and addressed while supporting more proactive maintenance.
The company said remote monitoring is particularly useful in Herefordshire because the county’s traffic signal sites are spread across a predominantly rural area. The contract also complements M Group’s wider highway and infrastructure maintenance work for the council.
Samantha Harvey, head of operations at Telent, said: “Supporting a largely rural network requires both local understanding and the right technology. By combining long-standing knowledge of the Herefordshire network with tools such as Optima Hub, we can help maintain reliable performance and respond quickly when issues arise. This contract reflects the strength of our presence across the region and our continued commitment to supporting local authorities with reliable traffic technology services.”
Ed Bradford, major contracts programme director at Herefordshire Council, said: “Reliable traffic signals play an important role in keeping people moving safely across Herefordshire. Telent’s knowledge of our network, combined with its remote monitoring capabilities, provides valuable support in helping us manage assets effectively and maintain a dependable service for residents, businesses and visitors.”
