TransPennine Express (TPE) is introducing baby-on-board badges across its network to help pregnant passengers access support during their journeys.
The badges will be available from stations and carried by conductors as part of their everyday equipment. They are intended to help customers indicate discreetly that they may need a seat or additional consideration, including when their pregnancy is not yet visible.
A signal for extra support
TPE said travelling during pregnancy can be challenging on busy services where seats may be limited. The badges provide a way for passengers to signal that they could benefit from assistance without having to ask directly.
The train operator is also asking other customers to look out for the badges and, where possible, offer a seat to anyone displaying one.
Andy McClements, customer experience and transformation director at TPE, said: “We’re committed to creating a railway that is welcoming and accessible for everyone. Our baby on board badges offer a simple and discreet way for pregnant customers to let others know they may need a seat or a little extra support while travelling.
“It may seem like a small gesture, but it can have a big impact on a customer’s confidence and comfort while travelling with us. We’re looking forward to seeing the badges in use across the network and hearing about the difference they make.”
