West Northamptonshire seeks views on draft road safety strategy

Residents can help shape the council’s long-term plan to reduce collisions and improve safety across the local road network.

West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) has launched an engagement exercise on its draft Road Safety Strategy, inviting residents and stakeholders to comment on its plans for improving safety across the local road network.

The strategy is intended to guide decisions, interventions and funding, with actions proposed for the short, medium and long term. WNC said it had developed the draft using evidence on existing road safety conditions, responses to its Local Transport Plan consultation, and feedback from town and parish councils and other key stakeholders.

Supporting the transport plan

West Northamptonshire’s Local Transport Plan was approved in March 2025. It sets transport priorities for the next five years and a longer-term approach to maintaining and improving local transport through to 2045.

The plan identified a series of supporting strategies and action plans to be produced over the following five years. WNC said improving road safety was highlighted as an important issue by many respondents to the Local Transport Plan consultation.

The council said the draft strategy sets out a road safety vision and the measures needed to support a reduction in road traffic collisions. It added that the approach would be proactive, identifying and addressing issues so people could feel more confident travelling by different modes.

Virtual information session

WNC will hold a virtual information and question session from 10am to 11.30am on Monday 23 November 2026. The event, hosted through Microsoft Teams, will include a short presentation followed by questions and answers.
