WSP completes acquisition of Hulley & Kirkwood

The deal adds 122 building services specialists and expands WSP’s regional presence, particularly in Scotland.

WSP has completed its acquisition of UK building services consultancy Hulley & Kirkwood, adding specialist mechanical, electrical and public health engineering expertise to its UK and Ireland operations.

Founded in 1953, Hulley & Kirkwood employs approximately 122 people across seven UK offices. The consultancy has a particularly strong presence in Scotland and works across healthcare, defence, commercial, education and government projects.

Regional and sector expansion

WSP said the acquisition will strengthen its capabilities in healthcare and defence, while expanding its regional reach and technical offer across the UK. Hulley & Kirkwood will be integrated through a structured programme intended to maintain continuity for clients and support collaboration and growth.

Paul Reilly, president and managing director for the UK and Ireland at WSP, said: “Completing the acquisition of Hulley & Kirkwood is an important step in strengthening our building services expertise in the UK. Hulley & Kirkwood brings a strong technical reputation, deep sector expertise and an established regional presence, particularly in Scotland. I’m pleased to welcome our new colleagues to WSP and look forward to the opportunities we will create together for our clients and our people.”

Andy Temple, WSP’s executive managing director for property and buildings in the UK and Ireland, said the consultancy was a “strong strategic fit” for the business.

“Its expertise in mechanical, electrical and public health engineering, combined with a strong track record in sectors including healthcare, education, commercial and government, will enhance our ability to deliver high-quality, integrated solutions for clients across the UK,” he said. “The acquisition also strengthens our presence in key regional markets and supports our continued growth in building services.”

Michael O’Donnell, a director at Hulley & Kirkwood, said the deal would create new opportunities for staff within a global organisation while retaining the consultancy’s focus on service and local delivery.

Colin Lindsay, financial director at Hulley & Kirkwood, added that joining WSP would bring together complementary expertise while maintaining the company’s “hands-on, pragmatic approach”.
